To believe and receive Christ is to enter into the greatest miracle of all — rebirth. When we come to faith, something supernatural happens. We are no longer merely creations of God, we become His children.
“Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” John 1:13 (NIV)
John describes this as a birth “not of blood,” meaning it is not inherited by family or ethnicity. It is not “of the will of the flesh” — no human effort can produce it. And it is not “of the will of man” — no institution or ritual can guarantee it. It is the sovereign work of God’s Spirit (John 3:5–6).
Becoming a child of God is not a metaphor; it is a reality. The Holy Spirit regenerates the heart, planting new life where there was once death. He gives us a new nature — new desires, new affections, new direction. Our identity changes from orphaned to adopted, from sinner to saint, from enemy to heir.
This new identity is not earned, it is given. Romans 8:15 reminds us, “You received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry, ‘Abba, Father!’” That word — Abba — expresses intimacy, safety, and love. God is not a distant deity but a present Father who calls us His own.
This is the heart of the Gospel. God does not merely improve us—He remakes us. To be born of God is to be given a new beginning that no failure can undo and no circumstance can erase. It means we no longer strive to earn belonging; we live from it. Our obedience becomes response, not requirement. Our faith becomes trust, not fear.
If you have received Christ, you are not becoming God’s child—you already are. And if you are standing at the threshold, uncertain but drawn, know this: the Father delights to give new life to those who come to Him. The door stands open, not because of what you have done, but because of what Christ has done for you. To believe and receive Him is to step into the life you were always created to live—secure, loved, and forever held in the family of God.
Reflection:
Do you live as a spiritual orphan or as a child of God? How would your daily outlook change if you truly believed that God delights in you as His beloved?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making me Your child. Let me live from my identity, not for it. Help me remember that I am loved, chosen, and secure in You. Amen.
