“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
*“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” *
— Psalm 46:1
Stress has a way of making everything feel urgent at once. The mind races, the heart feels heavy, and even small things begin to feel harder than they should. In those moments, it is easy to believe that strength means holding everything together by yourself. But Scripture points us in a different direction.
Jesus does not call the weary to impress Him. He calls them to come to Him. “Come to me,” He says, not after you have solved everything, not after you have calmed yourself down, but right in the middle of the burden. That means stress is not a signal to run farther from God. It is often the very place where we most need to draw near to Him.
Psalm 46 reminds us that God is not a distant observer. He is “a very present help in trouble.” Stress can make us feel isolated, as though we are carrying pressures no one sees. But the Lord sees. He knows the weight you are under, the responsibilities you are juggling, and the fears you have not even said out loud. He does not ask you to pretend you are fine. He invites you to find refuge in Him.
Handling stress without falling apart does not mean pretending to be unshaken. It means learning where to take your shaking heart. It means pausing long enough to pray before panic takes over and remembering that your life is not held together by your ability to manage everything perfectly, but by God’s faithfulness. And doing what you can, surrendering what you cannot, and trusting that the Lord remains steady even when you do not feel steady.
Today, do not let stress become your master. Bring it to Christ. Let His presence calm what pressure is trying to unravel. He may not remove every demand immediately, but He will meet you in the middle of them and give strength for what this day requires.
Prayer
Father,
You know the stress I am carrying and the burdens weighing on my heart. Thank You that I do not have to hold everything together on my own. Help me come to You with what feels heavy instead of trying to manage it all by myself. Be my refuge, my strength, and my peace in the middle of pressure. Calm my anxious thoughts, steady my heart, and remind me that You are near. Give me wisdom for what I need to do today and grace to trust You with what I cannot control.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection Questions
- What is causing the most stress in my heart right now?
- Have I been carrying this pressure alone instead of bringing it to God?
- What would it look like for me to trust God with today, not all of tomorrow?
